Carrot Cake Cheesecake with Vanilla Frosting

Let the yumm begin. One of my favorite doings is to turn already existing and proven recipes into something new. Well, sometimes it works and turns out to be great, but sometimes you just have to forget that you had the idea in the first place. But this time the result was brilliant, exciting, good looking and yummie! What was I up to ? I wondered if a combination from two of my favorite cake recipes would be working out? So I took half of the carrot cake recipe and half of the NY cheesecake recipe from my book and layered both into one baking tin. Well, glad I did. Both batters are a combination created in heaven, they taste wonderful together, and no piece of the cake was left over! Everything is gone up to the last crumb! There is no better result than this, right?

Alice in Wonderland crafty Book Jacket

I finished another one of those crafty book jackets that I am making for my German baking book Backen mit Love. It´s themed "Alice in Wonderland" with the compulsory "Eat Me" sign. The fabric was waiting to be used in my cupboard since my last visit to Tokyo (The fabric store Okadaya in Shinjuku is crafty heaven). Unfortunately I did only buy half a meter last time, so if you happen to be around, I would like to place another order. The cute cake button is from Okadaya as well.

Cinnamon Rolls with warm Caramel Nut Sauce

Last weekend, there just had to be Cinnamon Rolls. I took the base recipe from my book and did some experimenting with the frosting. Since I have recently become a true caramel lover, I tried a warm caramel nut sauce. So, I simply melted brown sugar, butter, heavy cream (all from the top of the calorie leaderboard) together with almonds. The taste was incredible. Compared to traditional cinnamon rolls the sauce is way thinner and is more 'absorbed' by the roll. The result is a soaked mixture of pure yummieness.

Crafty Book Jacket for "Backen mit Love"

I started to work on some crafty book jackets for my German baking book "Backen mit Love". Main reason was that my personal copy of the book needed a cover, but when I saw all those cute fabrics that I have collected, I just had to start designing. Here´s the first that is finished. So cute. I know what you might be thinking. Can I have one ? Honestly, I don´t know yet. I guess yes. It depends on how many I will have in the end and whether there is a nice idea on how to allocate them. I don´t want to sell them or simply do a lottery. Maybe you have some ideas. Although, I am not making promises, I know myself, maybe it will be just to hard to let them go. I keep you posted.

Strawberry Cheesecake

For last Sunday's cake buffet (Pictures coming up this week, I promise), I wanted to do another Cheesecake variation. I love Cheesecake, so I tried one with Strawberries. Looking at it, it feels way more summer'ish than March. My only problem was that at first guests did not really dare to cut it with all those beautiful fruits on top.

The recipe is a variation of the New York Cheesecake that you can find in my German book "Backen mit Love" (click on the pic to enlarge). For it´s beautiful colour, I just added 3 tablespoon of mashed strawberries to the filling and replaced the blueberry topping with sour cream and fresh strawberries. My original recipe below. If you are not so into German, you can find lot´s of New York Cheesecake recipe variations on the internet.

My Book in Sweet Paul Magazine

Today is the day. German Sweet Paul magazine spring issue is out and 5 entire pages are dedicated to my book. I don´t have to mention again that I love it. I am also very happy for my mum, as they picked her cheesecake recipe as one of the cakes that are featured. So, what's in it for you if you buy the mag ? As promised you can win one of three crafty handmade super cute Sweet Paul bookmarks that I designed for them together with "Backen mit Love" (which you already have, of course). However, I have heard that giving and receiving gifts makes people happy. So give the book to beloved ones and, by all means, keep the bookmark to yourself. Good Luck.

Sweet Paul Magazine exclusive Bookmarks

I am so looking forward to next week. The German Edition of Sweet Paul Magazine does 5 full pages on my "Backen with Love" book. I am so happy, the specimen copy of the magazine was in the mail today. Sweet Paul is one of my absolute favorites and I never thought that I could be in it some day. As a "Thank You", I have designed three cute crafty bookmarks that you can actually win in a competition that they are running. All you have to do is wait for the magazine until it comes out next week (Feb 25th).

It's Scrapbooking Time

I was in Erkrath yesterday for a "Backen mit Love " book signing event. I basically moved in there for the afternoon with all my Valentine`s Day stuff. We turned the event into a scrapbooking workshop and it was a blast. Thanks to the lovely people from Buchhandlung Weber who invited me and have such lovely furniture. It was very easy to decorate everything nice. Thanks also, to everyone who came chatted, scrapbooked or bought the book. I still can´t believe that we are already in the 2nd Edition.

Pink hasn´t even started yet

Today, something funny in German. I found this in a Swiss news magazine. A very nice review of my book. Although, absolutely no reason to pity my hubby. He knows what he is doing. Valentine`s Day is coming up next month, so he is aware that the color Pink hasn´t even started in the house yet.

My Book and Me

Today is really a big day for me. Our publisher sent me the first copies of our German book 'Backen mit Love - Rezepte aus dem rosa Haus'. I am speechless. Something that started as 1.000.000 tiny 'crafty' pieces glued onto hundreds of pages and 10.000.000 calories in cakes, has finally become real. If you have not yet had a peek into it, please visit www.backenmitlove.de. I am so happy.

Baking the Carrot Cake

My friend Dani and I made a little movie of us baking the carrot cake from my book. It´s real easy, I only recommend to secure the Icing from kids. Otherwise It might not make it onto the cake. Here´s a link to the German post on www.backenmitlove.de

My first book "Backen mit Love"

For 9 Months my hubby and I were working on this book project (we started Jan 1st 2013, no it was not a new year´s resolution). It has always been sort of something, where we did not know if it was really real. Since yesterday, the book appears on German Amazon for pre-order (release date Nov 18th in time for XMas). I guess, in today´s world if something is on Amazon it must be real. Doesn´t it. So I am proud, overexcited and hope that people will like it. "Sorry" to all of you outside Germany, it´s in German but maybe some day we will translate it. At least you can see the pictures. My hubby set up a new website around the book. Once we get closer to the release date we´ll post more stuff incl. some videos. The website is called like the book: www.backenmitlove.de

Good things come to those who bake

As some of you know, I am currently working on a baking book (very excited) that is scheduled for Nov (lot´s of XMas stuff in it). That is the main reason why I am not posting so frequently. The book will be in German (yes, I know, sorry). The best thing: I am already able to allow my mind to be filled up with lot´s new ideas as my hubby will have to do most of the work in the next two weeks. We are in the final correction stages. I promise, the closer we get to it`s release, the more stuff I will be presenting you guys from it. Today, here´s a cute pic with baked "frames" that I'll be using in the book somewhere.
