Jam Season Part One - Strawberries
The jam/marmelade season has started. At least for me. So I started with strawberries. Apart form making a yummy jam, I set myself the target to make every single glass different with lot´s of cute hangtags, stamped labels and tiny little crochet things that put a smile on your face for breakfast.
Get inspired on a rainy Day
It is raining since three days, a lot! It seams that there is no break in between, just steady rain. So depressing! But then, there just was a knocking at my door and it was Marcel, our lovely postman! Dressed in a bright yellow rain coat he let me sign for a parcel. And not only for something electronic my husband ordered, nope, it was the highly anticipated shipment from japan with fresh books. Did I tell you before that I love Etsy so much? If not, here it is: I love you Etsy! I can order all these incredible Japanese crafting books with you and they arrive only 2 weeks later! Well guys, I am sitting back on my sofa now, with a bunch of books around me. Trust me, you can get inspired even on a rainy day
Alice in Wonderland crafty Book Jacket
I finished another one of those crafty book jackets that I am making for my German baking book Backen mit Love. It´s themed "Alice in Wonderland" with the compulsory "Eat Me" sign. The fabric was waiting to be used in my cupboard since my last visit to Tokyo (The fabric store Okadaya in Shinjuku is crafty heaven). Unfortunately I did only buy half a meter last time, so if you happen to be around, I would like to place another order. The cute cake button is from Okadaya as well.
Crafty Book Jacket for "Backen mit Love"
I started to work on some crafty book jackets for my German baking book "Backen mit Love". Main reason was that my personal copy of the book needed a cover, but when I saw all those cute fabrics that I have collected, I just had to start designing. Here´s the first that is finished. So cute. I know what you might be thinking. Can I have one ? Honestly, I don´t know yet. I guess yes. It depends on how many I will have in the end and whether there is a nice idea on how to allocate them. I don´t want to sell them or simply do a lottery. Maybe you have some ideas. Although, I am not making promises, I know myself, maybe it will be just to hard to let them go. I keep you posted.
Crochet Totoro
My hubby loves "My Neighbor Totoro", so when his sister asked me for birthday gift recommendations, I said "Why don´t you try to make him a crochet Totoro". I am not very good (and not patient) at crafty things that are "accurate", so this was the perfect challenge for her. What she came back with is simply amazing. Of course the hubby already asked and wants the little white "Chibi Totoro" for Xmas. I am not mentioning the ginger cat here, messing around with the pictures.
Cute Summer Indoor Bunting
To clear out all sorts of crafty leftovers, I came up with the idea for this summer bunting. Little crochet things, buttons, tapes and laces are piling up everywhere at our house and their presence might get questioned by the hubby. So a bunting is the perfect camouflage. However, since the weather is not so nice yet, I had to put it up indoors. I am very happy with the result. Although it looks a little bit too white to me. I will think of adding a vintage look by my usual "Earl Grey" tea coloring before I put it on the front porch.
Crochet Cachepots for Easter
Last week I spent on the Dutch coast for a little Easter break. Unfortunately the weather was not so great, I kept scrutinizing the area for craft stores. I was lucky, bought some wool and made these little cute crochet cachepots. I don´t have a name for them yet, but even with Easter being gone soon they will remain part of the current decoration.
It's Scrapbooking Time
I was in Erkrath yesterday for a "Backen mit Love " book signing event. I basically moved in there for the afternoon with all my Valentine`s Day stuff. We turned the event into a scrapbooking workshop and it was a blast. Thanks to the lovely people from Buchhandlung Weber who invited me and have such lovely furniture. It was very easy to decorate everything nice. Thanks also, to everyone who came chatted, scrapbooked or bought the book. I still can´t believe that we are already in the 2nd Edition.
The Knitted Lampshade
After 1 week holiday around England's coast staying at Lyme Regis, the Duesseldorf airport welcomes us with heavy rain! This is really what makes you feel bad. And since I had my most beloved Cream Tea every day, I felt that I can't do any baking today. Too many calories to count for...that's why it was clear that I need to start a craft project. With the help of my friendly hot glue gun and an old sweater out of the winter cupboard I got started: A new dress for the lampshade.
Well, well, I finished it and want to share the result with you. But with only the grey sweater, I felt that it needed something else, that's why I added the crochet and the pompom border at bottom and top. But still it looked kind of none finished, that's why I added a rich pompom in the middle and attached a heart out of buttons in matching colors. Now that's what I call a pretty enriched lampshade after all, right?
And the heart of buttons turned out so nice, that I am thinking about doing some X-Mas ornaments with this technique. Could be in red color then? Or green maybe? We will see!

Crafty Cat
I wanted to have a cat in one of the photos of my baking book. The only problem being that the real life cat that I am 'working' on is still way too shy for posing. So, I simply made this crafty one out of some very cute fabric that I found in Tokyo. She is now sitting on the porch, relaxing after the photo shoot in the kitchen.
Crochet Breakfast
For a yummy and healthy sunday breakfast, I recommend a decent amount of peanut butter and sunny side up egg on toast. In order to avoid too many calories, everything is done crochet style. But why am I doing this ? I just came back from a vacation in Japan and "crochet food" is on a total different level there. I even bought a book about it. Of course, I can not read anything but the pictures are super cute and crochet patterns are 'international'. So there will be more crochet food coming your way.
More Vintage Lace Curtain
A couple if weeks back, I have worked on a vintage lace curtain for the porch door. I liked it so much that, with a little bit of free time during rainy German pre-summer weekends, I made some more for the kitchen windows. In the back you can spot the vintage bunting from the porch as well.
Planning a Yarn Party
I am always impressed with all the crochet things seeing on Pinterest. I need to work on my crochet skills and was looking for something really easy to start with.
First thing were the granny square coasters with 2 colours. Couldn't be too difficult, can they? As they turned out so nice, I was highly motivated and added some pompoms, during watching TV (you can always use pompoms for everything, right?).
For the Apple potholder, I started as I would do a regular flower...with the magic loop and double crochets. Just added round after round until had appr. 18 cm. The green leaf, the apple core and the stem I added at the end. I think the last time I did some potholders, must have been 30 years ago. I am so proud about my work!
The crochet edge for the postcards given me some headache, but after watching a tutorial, it turned out not too complicated for me after all. And now I can hang them on a wall, if i like!
So I decorated the table for some nice pictures, showing you the results of my crochet weekend. I also added some things that my hubby's sister gave me. She's a pro. Maybe these pictures will inspire you to start crafting a little bit as well. Let's crochet!

Vintage Tassles and Doily Bunting on our Porch
Finally, the weather is like spring, so the front porch can also be decorated 'accordingly'. For the next couple of months I decided to use a curtain of tassles on our front porch that I have torn from all sorts of fabric. Took quiet some time but it was worth it. For the vintage look, I dyed them in black tea. I did the same with the doily bunting.
